Sony launches DAV-DZ home cinema systems

Sony has announced its new range of DAV-DZ BRAVIA Theatre systems, each unsurprisingly styled to match the look and feel of the latest BRAVIA TVs.
To increase the appeal of a Sony-branded home cinema set-up, the new systems use BRAVIA Sync, an enhanced version of BRAVIA Theatre Sync, to give greater control of the overall system using a single remote control.
In addition, by using Sony’s digital media port, the DAV-DZ systems can also connect your portable and wireless music devices such as mobile phones, WALKMAN and other MP3 players, Bluetooth devices and home Wi-Fi networks.
Sony’s Digital Cinema Auto-Calibration claims to ensure a fast, simple and automatic multi channel surround sound set up: using a microphone supplied, DCAC measures the position of the speakers and listeners within your room, then sets up the system to give the very best sound wherever you it.

General Mobile DST11

February 24th, 2008

image
image
General Mobile’s new DST11 slider sports a dual-SIM slot, allowing users the ability to manage 2 different phone numbers with the same handset. A 1.3 megapixel camera also records video and a miniSD card slot offers expanded memory options.

The DST11 is dual-band GSM (900/1800MHz), which pretty much limits it to the European market. The 2.0″ 262k color display looks nice, though, and the side-mounted volume keys can also function as up/down for navigation. Pricing and availability are not currently available.

DKSH Marketing Services Sdn. Bhd., authorized distributor of Casio digital camera, yesterday launched the EXILIM Card EX-S10 in Malaysia. It was unveiled by representatives from both Casio Japan and DKSH. The recommended retail price for Malaysia: RM1,099.00.

Casio’s EXILIM series was born with the appearance in 2002 of a “wearable card camera” — a digital camera with a very slim form. The new EXILIM Card EX-S10 maintains all of the powerful functionality of the cameras that were later developed in that line (high pixel count, zoom functionality, LCD monitor, photo functions, etc.) but it also embodies a return to a stylish thin form and a strong design presence.

“i” Meme + Lipstick = iStick

February 23rd, 2008

image
image
Designer Alexei Mikhailov isn’t out to convince people his iStick concept is the perfect mobile convergence device. In fact he clearly points out the iStick isn’t for viewing movies and the screen is too small for effective photo viewing. What it does have is a visual replication of the iPhone/Touch space inside a device the size of a lipstick tube.

Big square icons and of course Coverflow let you navigate the Mac way. What’s interesting is his surface design. All four surfaces are touchscreens which could present some interesting and unique interface design. The integrated WIFI also enables you to browse iTunes. It’s not an iPod replacement per say. Think of it more as a big brother to the iPod Shuffle.

LG SH150A sports 26 million colors

February 22nd, 2008

image
image
The Korean home division of LG is releasing a new version of its SH150 slider, the SH150A. The A refers to the introduction of a new, 2.2-inch AMOLED screen for the phone, which boosts color depth to an unprecedented 26 million colors — more than one and a half times the number found on most HDTV sets. This is mainly for the sake of watching DMB mobile TV, which can also be displayed in HD resolution.

This is supported by the presence of a 7.2Mbps HSDPA receiver, which further suggests that the phone will remain in Korea. Other hardware on the phone includes a RAZR-like keypad, VGA and two-megapixel cameras, plus an 800mAh battery with 150 minutes of talk time or 150 hours (six days) of standby. The phone should go on sale February 22nd, at a price equivalent to $400.

Samsung BD-UP5000

February 22nd, 2008

image
image
The HD DVD format was on the losing end of the blue laser battle, but the early adopters of this original HD disc format may be interested in a set-top player that supports the playback of HD DVD and Blu-ray high-definition discs. Until all HD movies make the transition to the Blu-ray format, a combo HD disc player lets you focus on finding content you want rather than worrying whether that content is compatible with your hardware. And the Samsung BD-UP5000 Duo HD Player ($999 list) delivers the best image quality and disc performance I’ve seen in an HD disc player to date. The long-term enjoyment of any HD disc player depends on firmware updates that add new features and address any issues that arise, and the BD-UP5000 is the only dual-format HD disc player that can be conveniently updated directly over the Internet.

Although the BD-UP5000’s glossy black stylings are similar to those of other Samsung disc players, its face has been updated with rounded edges as well as a strip of recessed chrome-like trim along its lower lip. Its information display is positioned between the disc tray on the left and a circular control pad near the right-hand edge of the player’s face. The rack-friendly dimensions of the BD-UP5000 are 3.1 by 12.8 by 16.9 inches (HDW), and the unit tips the scales at 9.3 pounds.
