The Gigaset M383 T is a DVB-T receiver that’s designed to bring digital terrestrial TV broadcasts to your High Definition (HD) ready television in superior picture quality. Featuring Perfect Upscale technology, this receiver converts standard definition TV signals to High Definition parameters and transmits them to your TV via High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI™). As a result, you can enjoy improved clarity and detail on your HD ready TV screen. For added connectivity convenience this receiver even comes standard with 2 SCART sockets.
Because this digital TV receiver is a Gigaset it also features an intuitive on-screen display (OSD) – which makes operation simple. The handy OSD will first guide you quickly through the installation process, so you can start enjoying your favorite programs in wonderfully sharp quality in no time. After you’re up and running the OSD will also ensure that using your receiver is always a pleasure.
Designed to help you get more out of standard definition broadcasts, the Gigaset M383 T for terrestrial digital TV is the ideal companion for your High Definition ready television. If you’re looking for a digital receiver that can deliver superior picture quality and which is easy to use, this model is a smart choice.
Enjoy better picture quality
Due to the limited number of channels offering free-to-air High Definition broadcasts, owning a HD ready TV doesn’t necessarily mean you can enjoy the superior pictures your TV screen can support. That’s where the Gigaset M383 T set-top box comes in. Featuring Perfect Upscale technology and a High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) connection, this smart digital receiver upgrades standard definition signals and transmits them to your HD ready TV – letting you enjoy every program you watch in superior quality.
7-day EPG for program schedules in advance
The Gigaset M383 T not only opens your home to a whole world of exciting digital television, it also helps you organize your viewing options so you always catch the best programs. Instead of flipping through channel after channel hoping to stumble upon your favorite shows, you can see from the on-screen Electronic Program Guide exactly what’s on and when up to 7 days in advance. You can also set up a favorites list so the channels you like best are always just a click away.
Widescreen support for a cinema-like experience
Because there’s nothing better than bringing the cinema experience into your own living room, this receiver also supports a 16:9 format. That means you can watch movies the way they were intended to be experienced and still enjoy all your home comforts.
The Gigaset M383 T DVB-T receiver is the key to a superior viewing experience and the perfect complement to your HD ready television. It ensures that every broadcast you watch always looks its best.

Lower-cost iPod nano soon, 15m new iPhones

June 28th, 2008

Apple is preparing significant changes to the iPod nano as it prepares a dramatic ramp-up in iPhone 3G shipments, according to a report by FBR Research analyst Craig Berger. The investment expert now anticipates an updated, lower-priced iPod nano in the near future on top of refreshes for both the iPod classic and iPod touch. Further details are unavailble, though Apple has traditionally increased capacities of the iPod in August or September as flash memory and hard drive technology improves; the company took the unusual step this year of doubling iPod touch capacity to 32GB just a few months after the product was introduced.

Apple is also now said to be increasing its iPod production to match and is estimated to be building 15 percent more of the media players than it did with Berger’s previous check, although he adds that the shift is now more towards the iPod nano and classic rather than the iPod touch, which has regularly been Apple’s second-strongest iPod in terms of online Apple Store sales since its debut. The move is reported to push Apple’s profit margins down for the sake of maintaining or growing iPod sales share.

First region free Blu-ray players available

June 27th, 2008

Look no further for the follow-up to last year’s multi-region Blu-ray players, with Bluraymods.com advertising a completely region free Panasonic DMP-BD30, available in either pre-modified or DIY kit formats. That’s all 6 DVD regions and three Blu-ray regions for those keeping count, and it claims to still work with any firmware updates. The good news for import lovers is a price of €499, considerably less than previous hardware, or €69 for a mod kit. We’re still not sure how well this will play with future DRM updates, but taking the leap appears to be getting cheaper and more convenient.

Unitek’s SATA HDD Dock throws in multicard reader, one-touch backup

June 27th, 2008

If you’ve managed to blink over the past few weeks, you may have missed it. Missed what, you ask? The war between no name HDD racks, that’s what. After numerous evolutions of the HDD Stage Rack managed to capture the hearts of at least a few storage junkies out there, we’ve seen a barrage of competitors surface over at Brando. The latest is Unitek’s SATA HDD Multi-Function Dock with One Touch Backup, which — to be totally frank — does a phenomenal job of explaining itself. For those a touch slow on the uptake, this unit enables any internal 2.5- / 3.5-inch SATA drive to be accessed externally, and furthermore, it packs a couple of USB 2.0 ports and supports a whole slew of memory cards. You could grab this one now for $53, but then again, you never know what will leapfrog it next week.

BufferZone Pro 3.0

June 27th, 2008

Signature-based security software keeps your PC from picking up known viruses and malware as you surf the Web, but it can’t necessarily catch a brand-new “zero day” threat. BufferZone Pro 3.0 addresses this problem by encapsulating all downloaded software inside its virtual environment (the zone). Programs running in the zone can’t make any permanent changes to your system, and emptying the zone wipes them out as if they had never been installed.

BufferZone comes preconfigured with a long list of browsers, P2P utilities, instant messaging programs, and other Internet-aware programs that always run inside the zone. It adds a red border to such programs and seems to have whipped the previous version’s bug that sometimes omitted the border. A small red and white overlay icon identifies files and programs that reside in the zone. Any files downloaded by such a program will likewise run in the zone. And completely emptying the zone wipes out any file or Registry changes the program made. You’ll also lose changes to browser settings, Favorites, and so on; to make permanent changes you’ll have to launch the browser outside of BufferZone.

E-mail programs get special status, since you wouldn’t want BufferZone to wipe out your e-mail messages whenever you empty the zone. A program identified as an e-mail client runs outside the zone itself, but any attachments or saved files get moved inside the zone. That’s smart!

SilverFast Brings Loepard Compatibility to Nikon Coolscans

June 27th, 2008

KIEL, Germany — Version 6.6 of SilverFast’s scan software now fully supports the current Mac OS 10.5 Leopard, including Nikon Coolscans.
In addition to supporting the 35mm film scanners Coolscan IV and V ED, Super Coolscan 2000, 4000 ED and 5000 ED, now also supports Nikon’s medium format scanners LS-8000 and LS-9000 under Mac 10.5, including IntelMacs.
Nikon has previously announced they will not be adapting their own NikonScan software to Mac OS 10.5.
The new software implementation includes SilverFast’s infrared based iSRD function supplying efficient Dust and Scratch removal with the advantage of sharper image details.
Contrary to other dust and scratch removal methods, SilverFast’s iSRD is primarily designed to preserve picture details by avoiding image smoothing.
Another highlight is the special support for Kodachrome slides which can use the iSRD function to efficiently remove dust and scratches. By means of SilverFast’s patented Multi-Exposure feature the dynamic range of the images may be greatly increased. Since SilverFast’s Multi-Exposure is able to obtain a density of 4.2D the full dynamic range of Kodachromes (up to 3.8D) can be captured — without SilverFast’s Multi-Exposure, the LS-5000 generally reaches a dynamic range of about only 3,3D.
Regarding the LS5000, SilverFast Multi-Exposure increases the number shades that can be captured from 3,388 to an incredible 17,378 shades, based on the ISO Norm 21550 standard.
SilverFast 6.6 is available directly from LaserSoft Imaging as well as at selected resellers.
