Microsoft job listing hints at App Store-like ‘Skymarket’ for Windows Mobile
While Apple’s App Store was far from being the first of its kind, we’re now seeing a job posting over in the Redmond area that suggests that Microsoft is looking to produce something similar for its Windows Mobile platform. The news comes hot on the heels of Google’s own Android Market announcement, and if the Product Manager position writeup is to be believed, said platform will be christened Skymarket. Described as a “marketplace service for Windows Mobile,” Skymarket could seemingly be a critical part of WinMo 7. But don’t take our word for it, the proof is the pudding — or in the read link, in this instance.

Now Verizon XV6800 works on Windows Mobile 6.1
Windows Mobile 6.1 looks like it’s making its way to Windows Mobile powered phones all around, and next up in line is Verizon’s XV6800. The latest ROM for the XV6800 adds the usual benefits of Windows Mobile 6.1, such as threaded SMS, better battery life and some others. The bad news is that Verizon still insists on keeping the GPS functionality locked down, so you won’t be able to use any 3rd party navigation apps.

Samsung Unveils 14MP Compact Camera at IFA
Samsung announced the new NV100HD digital camera at IFA in Berlin. The camera is the flagship of the Samsung line with 14.7-megapixels — the highest resolution in a compact camera so far. The lens is a 28mm wide angle and the LCD on the rear of the camera is a 3-inch unit.
The camera features HD output to big screen TVs and it features 3.6x optical zoom. Other features include digital image stabilization and the ability to record 720p video. The LCD has 460k pixels and should make for good quality image viewing.
The camera takes advantage of Samsung’s Smart Touch 2.0 on the rear of the camera to give users access to dynamic features and advanced controls with the touch of a finger. Samsung doesn’t offer pricing or availability information on the camera at this time.
Lego USB drive lets you build memory
Lego fans looking to transfer their files around have been given yet another unofficial Lego inspired USB drive at IFA in Berlin.
The Zip Zip memory brick is a USB 2.0 flash memory drive housed within a replica Lego brick.
Although not indorsed by Lego, the company even goes as far as saying: “This product is not sponsored, authorised or endorsed by the Lego Group of Companies” it will still work with the official Lego bricks.
When in use the lid clips onto the memory component, preventing accidental loss.
Windows and Mac compatible, the bricks come in four sizes and a range of eight colours.
A 1GB version will cost you $29, the 2GB model $40 and the 4GB model $59 dollars. The company has yet to price the 8GB version although says it will come in the same size.
The good news? The company says they do international shipping to the UK.
Our recommendation if you want one, would be to get in before Lego Lawyers get wise.
JVC NX-BD3 Blu-ray home theatre system
JVC has chosen IFA as the venue to launch its first foray into the Blu-ray market with the introduction of the NX-BD3 that the company will offer as a 2.1-channel Network Media System with Blu-ray disc player.
JVC claims that the NX-BD3 warrants a “world’s first” accolade as it is the first DLNA certified Blu-ray Player, front surround speakers, and a subwoofer with amplifier.
The player offers Blu-ray Full HD resolution, with Deep Colour and x.v.Colour in 1080p HDMI output and is Profile 1 ver. 1.1 compliant, with features like Bonus View as well as LAN connectivity.
The DLNA 1.5 certification means the system will allow file playback via wired and wireless home network, there’s an SD card slot and the machine is also DivX certified.
The speakers have two left/right pairs of drivers in the two speaker units each deliver front and surround channels respectively and are teamed with a “powerful” subwoofer.
Pricing is said to be around the £800 mark when it launches towards the end of the year.
Sony introduces PMX-U55 PMP for China
As we’ve seen, Sony sure doesn’t hold back on its exclusive-to-China line of PMX PMPs, and it’s just tossed yet another new model into the mix, with the PMX-U55 helping to fill out the low-end of the spectrum (and pick up where the PMX-U50 left off). This one apparently comes in only a 2GB version, and packs a decent enough 2.4-inch 320 x 240 display, a built-in FM tuner, and support for all the usual audio and video formats, not to mention a 7.5mm slim form factor. Of course, like seemingly every other entry in the line, there’s no word of a release outside of China, but those there can apparently pick one up right now for 498 Chinese yuan, or just over $70.
ASD iPhone Dock Station
If you are very serious about showing off your iPhone and the white plastic dock that came with the phone isn’t sexy enough for you, ASD has a slick looking docking station that might be perfect for you.
The device is simply called the iPhone 3G Dock Station and connects the phone via USB to your computer for dock and sync functions. The dock features video out, audio out, 110/240V, and an IR remote.
The dock will also work with the original iPhone. The audio and video out allow the iPhone to be connected to a TV or home stereo as well. Pricing is unknown at this time.
