What you see above is supposed to be Motorola’s ’single mode’ Voice over WLAN (VoWLAN) phone. In other words, this phone will let you make calls over a Wi-Fi network. It runs Windows Mobile smartphone edition and in all probability, it won’t have GSM or CDMA connectivity (hence the term single mode). Motorola has categorised it under its EWP series and is expected to be available exclusively in North America. We don’t have any further details on this baby. If you think you do, don’t feel shy and speak up!

Sony announced new model of MP3 player for NW-630F, and NWS730 Series.
Both will offer up to 16GB of flash memory, and feature 2.0 LCD Screen, Direct encoding function (From CD / MD), FM Radio.
Our little device are also compatible with MP3 / WMA / ATRAC / ATRAC Advanced lossless / Linear PCM / AAC / HE-AAC audio files, and H.264 / AVC / Mpeg4 videos files. They measure 89.5×42.9×7.5mm for a weigh of 46g
Sony also introduced the NW-S630FK Series which includes Speakers.
Lastly, they come with a pair of Noise-canceling earphones.
Sony will start to ship them from October 11th, but no word on price.

The HTC Touch Diamond is an ambitious smartphone. It is clearly intended to compete head-to-head with the iPhone, and appeal to the average consumer, not the business users that most Windows Mobile smartphones are sold to. To do this, HTC has come up with its own touch-oriented user interface that replaces the standard one.

The 2.8” touchscreen monopolizes most of the Diamond’s real estate. It is resistive as opposed to capacitive, meaning that it will work with a stylus and even when the user is wearing gloves. It is responsive and quick, allowing for a buttery smooth TouchFLO 3D interface. The screen’s VGA resolution means everything is crisp as can be. It auto-adjusts the backlight based on the lighting conditions (the user can override this) and we had no problems viewing the screen even in direct sunlight. It’s downright beautiful.

The HTC Touch Diamond cell phone features a large full touchscreen, which should mainly be operated with the included stylus pens. The stylus pens, that used to get lost easily, are made magnetic for the Diamond, which ensures they are more likely to stay in the holder. The touchscreen itself works fine. With other HTC phones, you often had to press rather firmly in order to type something in, however, for this model it already works a lot better. The response should come a bit faster and smoother at times, though. It all works, although from this mobile phone, in combination with the TouchFLO 3D, you’d expect more.

This latest version of the Touch is smaller than the original. It is a bit taller, that’s true, but it is both narrower and significantly thinner. It also weighs 5.5 grams or so less. Not a huge difference, but the changes make the Touch Diamond even more pocketable than the original. You can see a full list of Touch Diamond specs in our launch event story.

Pioneer Electronics has been stepping up their Blu-ray Player game this year with the release of their BDP-51FD and Pioneer Elite BDP-05FD BonusView players earlier this Summer, each of which features vastly improved disc loading and playback times, improved feature sets and higher performance than their predecessors. Now at CEDIA Expo in Denver this week, Pioneer has unveiled its first Blu-ray player to support the BD-Live feature for access to internet and network-based content and it looks to be an exceptional marvel of engineering.

Panasonic is expected to talk up two new BD Live models, the DMP-BD35 and DMP-BD55, say sources. These players feature slight changes from the manufacturer’s debut Web-enabled set-top, the DMP-BD50, which launched earlier this summer. The BD35 should be somewhat smaller than its BD50 predecessor. Panasonic’s BD55 will represent the company’s first Blu-ray player boasting 7.1 surround sound.

A good idea that’s oddly executed, the $299.99 (list) PC Edge is a small handheld device for on-the-go Web browsing, and it pulls up full, desktop-style Web pages quickly and clearly. Unfortunately, its many eccentricities make it difficult to recommend.

A wide, slim (6 by 4 by 0.6 inches HWD, 6.1 ounces) palmtop that browses the Web over a proprietary thin client system, the PC Edge uses T-Mobile’s GPRS (not even EDGE!) network to connect to the Internet. It’s not a phone; it doesn’t have a user-accessible SIM card; and there’s no onboard storage. When you press a key on the keyboard, the device links up with Datawind’s servers in Canada, which push down highly compressed images of Web pages that are updated several times a second. The device is basically a remote-desktop client for Datawind’s browsing servers.

For the most part, Runco stays pretty quiet in the consumer realm… until CEDIA rolls around. Once again, the high-end AV company is firing on all cylinders in Denver, announcing seven new 1080p LCD / plasma displays including its largest LCD to date, the 70-inch Crystal Series CX-70DHD (pictured). Along with the new panels, the outfit is unveiling its exclusive OPAL (Optical Path Alignment) technology on select models which “delivers extreme glare reduction and enhanced contrast for high ambient light environments.” The aforesaid 70-incher (shipping mid-October for $34,995) actually comes bundled with an external DHD video controller / processor, which incorporates Runco’s Vivix II tech to “enhance all digital and NTSC content to near high-definition quality.” We’ll admit, that sounds an awful lot like something Toshiba’s got going on just a few booths over, but make of it what you will.
