The Dell Precision 690 and 490

Quad Core Processor
Quad-core Intel Xeon and Core 2 Extreme Processors
Dell Precision 690, 490 and 390 Workstations
The Dell Precision 690 and 490 are available with up to two Quad-Core Intel Xeon 5300-series 64-bit processors. The Dell PrecisionT 390 may be configured with a quad-core Intel Core 2 Extreme or dual-core Core 2 Duo or Core 2 Extreme processor. Next generation quad core Intel processors can deliver a substantial performance increase over existing single and dual-core processors for multi-threaded applications and in multi-tasking environments.

Quad Core Memory
System and Memory Architectures
Substantial Performance Gains
The Dell Precision 690 and 490 Workstations have dual independent front side buses, each capable of up to 1333 MHz for extremely high-speed paths. Four fully buffered DIMM (FBD) memory channels provide double the channels of bandwidth for data to move between memory and the system. Coupled with memory scalability up to 64GB1 in the 690 and up to 32GB1 in the 490, these systems are designed to deliver massive performance improvements with memory-intensive applications including mechanical CAD, analysis and visualization/simulations.
The Dell Precision 390 supports front side bus speeds up to 1066MHz. Memory on the Dell Precision 390 is scalable up to 8GB2, with ECC and non-ECC options available.

Quad Core Design
Innovative Chassis Design
Optimized for Flexibility and Scalability
The Dell Precision 690, 490 and 390 offer innovative chassis design based on customer feedback to deliver excellent flexibility and scalability. The Dell Precision 690 offers maximum scalability, and the compact Dell Precision 490 and 390 were designed to save space, while still allowing optimal scalability. The Dell Precision 490 and 390 allow for both tower and desktop orientations, and feature rotating optical drives that can be oriented horizontally or vertically for optimal loading and enhanced customer experience.
